What’s This All About?

106 Somewhat Random Keys in 106 Days

I have an obsession. I love keys. I used to buy other people’s abandoned keys at Estate Treasures. It is a second hand store with an emphasis on vintage. Ed, the owner, had secret drawers full of them. He cleaned out old houses and found many keys over the years. Over the years, I bought him out. These days, these special treasures can be found on Etsy or E-bay in small lots. One dealer sent a vintage postcard with a thank you on the back along with the lot of keys.

All these unique keys with their own history. I have often wondered what the story behind each key is. This led me to my current writing project: 106 somewhat random keys in 106 days. I selected them from my enormous key collection and put each one in a sealed envelope. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anyone to do this for me. (I dare not ask anyone outside of my immediate family). Had I been able to do this for me, it would’ve been much more random. And those last 6, they were the least random. I added them because they were really unique.

Into the large wooden bowl they go. Each day I will pick an envelope, open it, look, think, feel, and write. I have done a few projects like this some years back – 90 Random Words in 90 Days and 90 Haikus in 90 Days. They were really fun projects that got me thinking, creating, and writing. I am hoping this experience will be similar. So, here I go.
